Water Quality and
Analytical Chemistry Expertise

See Bruce Gallaher's bio.

Examples of Dr. Mullen's projects:

PCBs in the Rio Grande

This was a cooperative study to evaluate the regional impacts of PCBs along the Rio Grande using the congener analytical method.

Pajarito Plateau Watershed Partnership

I started the PPWP in 2001 to address contaminant transport issues on a watershed scale.

Ken Mullen, Principal, Nambe Technologies, LLC

Water quality, hydrology, and analytical chemistry expertise,
at your service.

Ken Mullen is the founder and Principal of Nambe Technologies, LLC. Most of Dr. Mullen's career has focused on water quality issues. Ken has an in depth understanding of water quality, analytical chemistry, and contaminant transport.

Much of Ken's recent work has focused on PCBs in storm water with particular emphasis on data analyzed using the congener method, Method 1668. The congener method is a very sensitive analytical technique with detection limits well below 100 picograms per liter (pg/L) for individual congeners.

Ken's experience and attributes include:

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry
  • 23 years experience in water monitoring (quality and quantity)
  • Setting up hydrologic monitoring networks
  • Developing Sampling and Analysis Plans
  • Developing Data Quality Objectives (DQOs)
  • Gathering, organizing, evaluating, and summarizing analytical and hydrologic data
  • Consensus Building
  • Public Speaking
  • Project Management, certified Project Management Professional

Environmental Experience at Los Alamos National Laboratory

Ken worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for 13 years, with 11 years in environmental monitoring, before leaving to form Nambe Technologies, LLC. Some of his titles at LANL included:

  • Hydrology Team Leader
  • Watershed Management Program Leader
  • Surface Water Issues Manager
  • Information Management Team Leader

Hydrologic Technician with Bureau of Reclamation

Ken has extensive field experience. Before completing his graduate work, Ken was a Hydrologic Technician for the Bureau of Reclamation in Durango, Colorado for 12 years. As a Hydrologic Technician, he designed and implemented water quality monitoring programs for surface and groundwater. Ken has many years of field experience measuring surface water flows, monitoring groundwater levels, and collecting samples.

Research in Fiber Optic Sensors for Groundwater Monitoring

Dr. Mullen's graduate work focused on using Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy to develop fiber optic sensors to monitor groundwater contamination.
